Rolling picking

GuideLast checked on 15/10/2026

Pick-to-box without a fixed end – finished boxes go straight to packing, and an empty box fetches the next matching order along the walking route.

With rolling picking you pick without a fixed pick list: your cart has a certain number of boxes (compartments). Each box belongs to one order. As soon as a box is finished, the order goes straight to packing – you don't have to wait until the whole list is done. The next matching order goes into the empty box.

Setting up

  1. Open the pick list template (warehouse app: Settings → Pick lists, desktop: Warehouse settings → Pick list templates).
  2. Under General settings → Pick list properties, turn on Rolling picking. The pick list type becomes Pick-to-box.
  3. max. simultaneous orders: the number of boxes or compartments on your cart.
  4. Optionally Runs until: from this time on, no new orders are added. If the warehouse has a cut-off (pick wave rule or open pick wave), the run ends at the latest then.
  5. Save.

All other filters of the template apply as usual: shipping method, payment, stock, sorting, warehouse areas, reservation order, batch/best-before date and bills of materials.

Starting

Under Picking → My pick lists the template is marked Rolling. One tap starts the rolling pick list:

  • The app assigns up to max. simultaneous orders – one box per order.
  • The lines are listed along the walking route.
  • If you already have a running rolling list for this template, a tap continues it.

If no order fits at the moment, no list is created. The message names the reasons.

Picking

You pick as with any pick list: scan bin, scan item, confirm. Shortages, alternative bins, batch/best-before date and undo work the same way, see Picking.

Once all lines of an order are done, the app reports, for example, "Box 3 done – to packing". The order is immediately Ready to ship and can be found in Packing (scan order, box or pick list). With a shortage it goes back or is partially delivered – depending on the template's Shortage without replacement bin setting.

A finished box can no longer be undone; it is already in packing.

Fetching the next order

  • Scan empty box: the box gets the next matching order.
  • Or tap Assign next order.

This is how the app chooses the order:

  1. It prefers orders whose bins lie on the remaining walking route ahead of you – from the bin where you last picked.
  2. In a tie, the template's sort order applies.

Stock is only reserved now, with the current stock level. New orders that come in meanwhile are included immediately. If two employees pick with the same template, each gets different orders – never the same one.

Stopping

  • Stop in the "Rolling" panel: no new orders are added. You finish picking the open boxes. With the last box, the list is completed.
  • The list ends by itself when the run time or cut-off is reached, or when no matching order comes in and no box is open anymore.

Overview
