Bills of materials (sets)
Bill-of-materials items as in JTL-Wawi – a set of components without its own stock. Availability, reservation, picking and shipping are handled via the components.
A bill-of-materials item (set) consists of other items, the components – for example a gift set made of two packs of coffee and a mug. The set has no stock of its own: what's available is what can be assembled from the components. When you sell the set, the components are reserved, picked and deducted.
Turning an item into a bill of materials
- Open the item and switch to the Set bill of materials tab.
- Switch on This item is a bill of materials. This only works if the item has no stock of its own and is not itself a component of another bill of materials – otherwise the reason is shown directly below the switch.
- At the top right of the Components card, choose an item from the list. It is added with a quantity of 1.
- Enter the Quantity per set (whole pieces) and confirm with Enter or by leaving the field.
Changes in the Set bill of materials tab are saved immediately – you don't need to save the item for this. Change the order with the arrows or via right-click (Move up, Move down); there you can also open or remove a component.
Stock and price
The Stock and price card shows:
| Detail | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Stock (calculated) | Smallest value of ⌊component stock ÷ quantity⌋ |
| Available (calculated) | Smallest value of ⌊component available ÷ quantity⌋ – takes reservations, blocked bins and return bins into account |
| In open orders | Ordered sets not yet shipped |
| Limited by | The component that runs out first |
| Total sales price of components | Comparison with the set's sales price – the note shows how much cheaper (set discount) or more expensive the set is |
| Total purchase price, margin | Purchase price of the components (preferred supplier) and net gross profit of the set |
Example: a set of 2 × coffee and 1 × mug, with 10 coffees and 3 mugs available: ⌊10 ÷ 2⌋ = 5, ⌊3 ÷ 1⌋ = 3 – 3 sets are available, limited by the mug.
Selling, picking and shipping
- Reservation: an open order with 2 sets reserves 4 × coffee and 2 × mug. These components are then no longer available for other orders – not even as single items.
- Pick lists: a set only goes onto a pick list when fully reserved – if a component is missing, the order stays out; with partial delivery only whole sets. In the pick list template you can also choose whether the components are reserved preferably from the same storage bin or only completely from one storage bin.
- Picking (warehouse app): the components are picked, each at its bin along the walking route. The card shows Bill of materials …, the quantity per set and e.g. Component 2 of 3 – see Picking.
- Packing (warehouse app): the set is shown with a header row Bill of materials … and its components below. You scan each component individually – or the set's EAN or item number, which counts one complete set (for pre-packed sets). See Packing.
- Shipping: only the components are deducted. If a component is missing, allverto names it in the message.
- Return: if you put a returned set back into stock, its components are posted to the selected bin.
- POS: a sold set deducts the components from the POS warehouse.
- Sales channels: shops are sent the calculated available stock for the set.
Nothing can be posted to a set itself (goods receipt, correction, stocktaking). Purchase suggestions don't include sets – the components are reordered.
Used in
The Used in card in the Set bill of materials tab shows every item whose bill of materials includes the open item as a component – sets and production bills of materials. A click opens the item or the production bill of materials.
In the item overview
- For bill-of-materials items, a small set icon appears in the Stock and Available columns: the values are calculated.
- In the preview, under Linked items, Components shows the parts of a set and Bills of materials shows where the item is used.
- Right-click → Calculate producible stock shows, for the selected items, how many sets can be assembled from the current component stock and how many products can be manufactured according to the standard production bill of materials – with the limiting component.
Bills of materials and production
Production bills of materials (Production → Bills of materials area) describe what a product is manufactured from: the product gets its own stock through the completion posting. A set, on the other hand, is not manufactured but only assembled from its components during picking. You'll find an item's production bill of materials in the item window in the Production tab (for the procurement type in-house or contract manufacturing).
Import from JTL-Wawi
The migration from JTL-Wawi imports bills of materials with their components and quantities as sets. allverto rounds fractional quantities up to whole pieces and notes this in the log. allverto does not import nested bills of materials or bills of materials with their own stock – they appear as a note in the log.
