Configurable items (configurator)

GuideNewLast checked on 15/10/2026

Configurable items as in the JTL configurator – a base item for which components from groups are chosen when selling. With mandatory groups, quantities, preselection, price rules and sub-lines in the order.

A configurable item is a base item for which components are chosen when selling – for example a coffee grinder with a selectable burr set, optional accessories and an engraving. The components sit in configuration groups, which you create once and use in as many configurable items as you like.

How it's structured

Building blockWhereWhat
Configuration groupItems → Settings → Configuration groupsName, comment, description, display type, how many components must be chosen at least/at most
Componentin the groupAn item or a free component (no item, no stock), with quantities, preselection and price rule
Configurable itemItem window → Configuration tab"Configurable item" switch and the assigned groups in order

Creating configuration groups

  1. Open Items → Settings and choose Configuration groups.
  2. Click Create group, enter a Name (e.g. "Burr set") and, if needed, a Comment. The comment is internal and distinguishes groups with the same name.
  3. Choose the Display type:
    • Radio buttons or Dropdown list: exactly one component (or at most one).
    • Checkboxes or List (multiple selection): several components.
  4. Specify how many components must be chosen at least and at most. A minimum of 1 makes the group a mandatory group.
  5. Click Create group or Save.

Adding components

In the Components card, choose an item at the top right or click Free component (e.g. engraving, setup). Double-click or right-click → Edit… opens the settings:

  • Minimum, default and maximum quantity per configurable item; Quantity adjustable allows a different quantity in the configurator.
  • Preselected: already selected in the configurator. With single selection there is only one preselection.
  • Recommended: highlighted in the configurator.
  • Once per configuration: the quantity of the main item doesn't count (for 3 grinders still only one setup).
  • Price rule: item price, fixed price (0 = included), surcharge (item price ± amount) or discount (item price − percent). Free components always have a fixed price and their own tax rate.

Turning an item into a configurable item

  1. Open the item and switch to the Configuration tab (after Set bill of materials).
  2. Switch on This item is a configurable item. This isn't possible if the item is a parent item, a bill of materials, a component of a group or set, or has its own stock – the reason is shown directly below the switch.
  3. At the top right of the Configuration groups card, assign the groups and sort them with the arrows.

The Pricing card shows the Base price (sales price from the Prices tab) and the range per piece: Minimum price (mandatory groups with the cheapest components), Standard price (preselection) and Maximum price.

Selling in orders and quotes

If you search for a configurable item in the transaction window, the results list shows Configure…. After selecting it, the configurator opens:

  • For each group, the selection matching the display type, with price and available stock per component.
  • At the bottom, the quantity and the live price (per piece and total).
  • Mandatory groups and maximum counts are checked before you can apply the configuration.

What's applied is a main line (configurable item at the base price) and a sub-line per component (indented, with the group name). If you change the quantity of the main line, the component quantities are recalculated. Right-click → Edit configuration… reopens the configurator; deleting or duplicating the main line affects the whole configuration.

Stock: the component items are reserved, picked and deducted – the main line reserves nothing. Free components have no stock.

In the item overview

  • Quick filter → Configurable items only shows only configurable items.
  • A small icon next to the stock marks them.
  • In the preview, under Linked items → Configuration, you see groups, components and the price range.

Differences from JTL-Wawi

  • In allverto the configuration group doesn't have its own image (yet).
  • A component may be in several groups; in JTL only in one.
  • There are no prices per customer group or per platform for components – the price rule applies.
  • During migration, allverto imports groups and components from the JTL configurator, as far as the database provides them.
