Set up printers and print agent

For security reasons, browsers are not allowed to select printers or print without asking. So that invoices end up on the office printer and shipping labels on the label printer, there is the allverto print agent: a small program for your PC through which allverto sees the printers and prints directly. You install it once per PC – like any other program, without additional software (no Node.js, no SumatraPDF needed). Without the agent everything keeps working – the browser's print dialog opens instead.

#How it works in three steps

1. Download: In the Set up printers window (appears on the first sign-in on a device) or at any time via the menu with your name at the top right → Set up printers, allverto detects your system and shows a large button, e.g. Download print agent for Windows (64-bit). For a different PC, choose the file under Other systems.
2. Install: open the file – details for each system are below. Afterwards, the allverto Druck-Agent (allverto print agent) page opens in the browser with a 6-digit pairing code.
3. Pair: back in allverto, the window notices after a few seconds by itself that the agent is running (otherwise Check again). Enter the code, click Pair – done. It then says "allverto print agent … is paired"; use Reload printers to fetch newly connected printers.

If the browser asks "… wants to access devices on your local network", choose Allow. This lets allverto talk to the agent on your PC; other devices on the network cannot reach the agent.

Pair once – it applies to the ERP, warehouse app, POS and production app in the same browser. The pairing and your workplace apply to all allverto apps of your company in this browser on this PC. If you paired the agent in the ERP, Printer management in the warehouse app, at the POS and in the production app shows the printers right away – you don't need to install or pair anything again. The printers per template type are already taken over from the ERP; just add what is still missing (e.g. pick list or bin label). Registered warehouse devices keep the printers from their device profile, POS registers keep their receipt printer. In a different browser or after deleting cookies, you pair once again.

#Windows

1. Click Download print agent for Windows (64-bit) and open the file allverto-druck-agent-…-windows-x64-setup.exe.
2. If "Windows protected your PC" appears: click More info and then Run anyway. (The warning appears as long as the program is not yet digitally signed.)
3. The agent installs without administrator rights, starts automatically with Windows from now on and opens the allverto Druck-Agent page with the pairing code.

On Windows, the agent prints PDFs with Windows' built-in PDF rendering. If SumatraPDF is installed, it uses it automatically – but it isn't required.

To show the code again later: Start → allverto Druck-Agent, or click Show pairing code in allverto.

#Mac (macOS)

With installer package (.pkg): double-click the file and choose Continue and Install in the installer. The agent then starts every time you sign in.

With ZIP file (as long as no installer package is available):

1. Double-click the ZIP file in the Downloads folder – a folder is created.
2. In it, double-click Installieren.command (install).
3. If the Mac reports "… cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer": open System Settings → Privacy & Security, choose Open Anyway next to the message at the bottom and confirm once more.

The allverto Druck-Agent page with the code then opens.

Which Mac? Apple menu → About This Mac: if it says Chip Apple M…, take Apple Silicon; for Processor Intel, the Intel version. allverto detects this by itself in Chrome and Edge; in Safari it shows both buttons.

#Linux (Ubuntu, Debian, Mint)

1. Download the file …-linux-amd64.deb and double-click it.
2. In the software manager, choose Install and confirm with your password.
3. The agent starts on sign-in from now on. In the applications menu, allverto Druck-Agent opens the page with the code.

Printing is done via the CUPS printing system – printers set up in Linux under Settings → Printers also appear in allverto.

#Choose printers

1. After pairing, allverto shows the printers of this PC. Optionally, give the workplace a name under Name of this workplace, e.g. "Packing station 1".
2. For each template type, choose Printer #1 and optionally Printer #2 (e.g. a copy for filing) and the number of Copies. Use the printer icon to print a test page.
3. Save.

Several template types at once: click the rows (or Ctrl+A), choose a printer at the top and click Apply to selected. Without a selection, the button is called Apply to all.

Good to know: The settings apply to you at this workplace (this browser on this PC). You can choose different printers at the packing station and in the office. If you sign in on another PC, with a different operating system or in a different browser, allverto asks for the printers again there.

#Shipping labels and scale at the packing station

• Shipping label: a separate printer for the carriers' labels (usually a label printer). Via Own label printer for a carrier, DHL for example gets a different printer than DPD; all other carriers use the row "Shipping label (all carriers)".
• When packing in the warehouse app (Pack, Create shipping label, Ship, Pack series under Identical orders), allverto automatically prints the label for each parcel as well as the delivery note and invoice according to Shipping settings → Packing & printing via the print agent. If a print job fails (agent off, no printer, printer error), it appears in red under Print again – with the reason, for reprinting or viewing. Packing and series shipping are only available in the warehouse app; the print agent prints shipping labels from the order window or the shipping board in the ERP (e.g. drop shipping, manual) in exactly the same way.
• Scale at this workplace (from print agent 1.0.2): turn on the Use scale switch. Scales with a serial or USB-COM connection (e.g. Soehnle, Kern, A&D, Mettler) on Windows, macOS and Linux; USB-HID parcel scales (e.g. Dymo M series) currently only on Linux. Set Connection type, Port, Baud rate and, if necessary, Query command (according to the scale's manual, e.g. "W") and click Test scale. When packing, Weigh then appears for each parcel.

#Set up printers on first sign-in

Printers belong to the device, not to your profile: they apply to this PC and this browser. As soon as the print agent is running here and is paired, the entry in the menu with your name is called Printer management (also in the search with Ctrl K). There you can change this workplace's printers at any time.

#"Print agent not found on this device"

If printers are set up at this workplace but the agent isn't running when you sign in (or isn't paired), allverto shows this notice once per sign-in:

• Download for the detected system – after installation it continues by itself.
• Check again – e.g. after you have started the agent via the Start menu.
• This time without agent (print dialog) – until you close the browser, allverto prints via the print dialog.

#My workplaces

Under My profile → Devices → Workstations tab you see all devices on which you have set up printers – with system, browser, last seen and number of printers. Remove deletes the printer settings of that workplace, e.g. for an old PC.

#Uninstall the print agent

• Windows: Settings → Apps → Installed apps → allverto Druck-Agent → Uninstall, or Start → Druck-Agent deinstallieren (uninstall print agent).
• Mac (ZIP): double-click Deinstallieren.command (uninstall) – it's in the ZIP file or in the print agent's folder. The agent then no longer starts on sign-in.
• Mac (installer package): please ask your administrator – they remove the agent with the script deinstallieren.sh in the folder Library → Application Support → allverto → Druck-Agent.
• Linux: search for allverto Druck-Agent in the software manager and click Remove.

#Output: print, email, save – the same everywhere

Wherever there is a print template, you'll find the Output button – always with the same items:

• in the selection bar at the bottom as soon as you select rows: orders, quotes, invoices, credit notes, dunning letters, purchase orders (purchasing), pick lists, items, bins and in shipping (orders, delivery notes, pick lists)
• in the footer bar of the windows: order, quote, invoice, credit note, delivery note, order confirmation and purchase order
• in the lists' right-click menu as the Output entry

#Orders: packing list, address label and documents for the order

For orders, you choose in the menu what is output:

• Print order confirmation – prints the order as an order confirmation, directly and without an intermediate step. Send order confirmation… emails it to the customer.
• Print or Save (PDF) / Save (ZIP) ▸ Packing list or Address label – created fresh with the print template on output.
• Print / Email / Save ▸ Order confirmation, Delivery note or Invoice – delivery note and invoice as the saved PDF of the issued document. The order is the order confirmation: it always comes directly from the order (print template "Order confirmation", order number, current data); no separate document is created. Printing and sending are recorded in the order's history; when emailing, a copy of the PDF is stored under Attachments. The delivery note is greyed out as long as it doesn't exist for the order yet.
• Pro forma invoice – as long as there is no finalised invoice for the order, the item has this name: a complete document with the identifier PF- and the order number and the note that it is not an invoice within the meaning of § 14 UStG (German VAT Act) (without XRechnung). Printing, saving and emailing work as for any document. See Create an invoice.
• Preview ▸ Order confirmation, Delivery note, Invoice or Pro forma invoice – shows the existing document or the document as it will be created: always complete with a real identifier (order number or PF-…), never with a placeholder. In the order window, the preview shows the saved state – if there are unsaved changes, save first.

Orders themselves can't be emailed – only a document for the order.

The output runs in the background with a progress indicator. Afterwards you see for each entry whether everything worked (e.g. "no email address for the customer") and can open the files or print again.

Important (GoBD): Issued documents and dunning letters are always output with the saved PDF – exactly as they were issued. A changed print template only affects new documents. Packing lists, address labels, pick lists, item and bin labels as well as purchase orders, on the other hand, are created fresh on output with the chosen template.

#Frequently asked questions

The agent isn't found even though it's installed. Open allverto Druck-Agent via the Start menu (Mac: Applications, Linux: applications menu) – this starts it and shows its status. If the browser asked for access to devices on the local network and you chose Block, allow it in the browser's site settings (padlock icon to the left of the address).

Where do I find the pairing code? On the allverto Druck-Agent page that opens after installation – or click Show pairing code in allverto. The code is valid for 10 minutes and changes after each pairing.

The print dialog still opens. No printer is selected for this template type at this workplace, the agent is not paired, or you chose This time without agent (applies until you close the browser).

Windows or the Mac warns about the program. The print agent is not yet digitally signed. You can confirm the warning once as described above; your administrator can confirm that the file comes from your allverto.

Is this secure? The agent can only be reached on your PC, only accepts jobs from allverto and only from browsers that were paired with the code.

Is the agent available for tablets or smartphones? No. There you print via the device's print dialog.
