Setting up the storage bin definition

GuideLast checked on 15/10/2026

Define how your storage bin codes are structured – with up to five levels such as hall, aisle, rack and compartment.

The storage bin definition describes how a bin code is structured – like the “Lagerlayout” (warehouse layout) in JTL-Wawi. allverto checks new bins against it and generates bins to match.

Default

Without your own setting, the following applies to every warehouse: Area (1–4 characters) – Aisle (2 digits) – Rack (2 digits) – Compartment (1 character), e.g. A-02-04-B.

Step by step

  1. Open Warehouse → Warehouses & bins and select the warehouse.
  2. In the … menu, click Storage bin definition … (also available via Edit warehouse and the generator).
  3. Define up to five levels. For each level:
    • Level active – the first level is mandatory; you add further levels from the top without gaps
    • Meaning: hall, block, section, area, aisle, rack, compartment, bin or level (each only once)
    • Labelling type: digits, letters or digits/letters
    • Length
  4. On the right you see Examples, and under Existing bins whether the existing bins match the new definition.
  5. Click Save.

Digits are padded with leading zeros (aisle 4 → 04). Letters and mixed levels may be shorter. Levels are always separated with “-”.

What happens to existing bins?

The codes of existing bins remain unchanged. If they don't match the new definition, the editor shows you the list (Show list). Walking route, zone filter and stocktaking by aisle depend on how allverto splits the codes into area, aisle, rack and compartment.

The general bin, goods receipt and clarification bins as well as automatically created bins (e.g. returns bins) are not checked.

Frequently asked questions

When creating a bin I get “Aisle: 2 digits expected”

The code doesn't match the definition. Enter the aisle with two digits (e.g. 04) or change the definition.

How do I generate many bins according to the new definition?

With Generate bins: there you get a field for each active level for ranges such as 1-12, A-F or lists. See Generating storage bins.
