Production app

GuideNewLast checked on 18/10/2026

A dedicated app for terminals and tablets at the workstation – sign-in by badge or PIN, work queue, setup, production, pause with reason, good and scrap quantities, material by scan, documents, inspection steps, malfunctions and shop floor overview.

The production app is the app for the shop floor – like the Workbench in JTL. It runs on its own address wbs.… (next to the ERP, the warehouse app wms.… and the POS pos.…) and is built for touch: large buttons, light or dark, full screen. Typically a terminal is fixed at the workstation or machine, and employees take turns signing in; a tablet for the shift supervisor works just as well. From the ERP you open it via the Production app button in the header or under Production.

Permissions

PermissionWhat it allows in the production app

Plan production and report progressSetup, production, pause, report quantities, issue material, record inspection steps, report malfunctions, change priority
Maintain bills of materials, routings and work centresSet up terminals, assign PINs and badges, maintain reasons and settings

Anyone who may only view sees everything, but the buttons for posting are greyed out. A sign-in at a terminal always has only the production permissions of the role – settings, profile or other areas cannot be reached there.

Setup

  1. In the ERP under Production → Settings → Production app:
    • Employees: for each person a PIN (4 to 8 digits) and/or a badge (number of the card or badge). If someone has no PIN of their own, their POS PIN applies.
    • Reasons: your own reasons for pauses, scrap and malfunctions. Without your own reasons the defaults apply (e.g. “Material missing”, “Machine broken”).
    • Settings: sign out automatically after … minutes without use, preset “Start working time”, who receives malfunctions and whether a Team chat message is sent as well.
  2. Open the production app on the device and sign in with your account (email and password).
  3. In the menu choose Set up device as terminal, choose the work centre and tap Set up as terminal. From now on the device shows the terminal sign-in of this work centre. The list of all terminals – with the option to remove an assignment – is in the ERP under Terminals.

Signing in and switching people

  1. Scan your badge – or tap your name and enter your PIN.
  2. With time tracking booked, the Start working time switch is shown: it clocks you in with the sign-in (start of shift).
  3. When you are done, tap Switch person or Sign out – your working time keeps running and the next person signs in. End shift also stops your working time.

Without use, the terminal signs out automatically after the configured time. Running operations keep running. After five wrong PINs the person is locked for 15 minutes.

Locking and time tracking: The lock at the top of the header locks the production app immediately – unlock with your password or your own PIN (workbench PIN, otherwise POS PIN; after 5 wrong attempts the PIN is blocked for a while). Right next to it is the time clock as in the ERP: clock in, break, clock out.

Work queue

After signing in you see the operations of the released production orders at the terminal's work centre – sorted by priority (urgent, high, normal) and due date. Overdue operations are marked, as are operations whose predecessor is not yet done.

  • At the top you choose Work center, Mine (booked by you or assigned to you) or All.
  • The search finds an order, item or item number; a scanned order document opens the operation directly.

Working on an operation

  1. Start setup – the time counts as setup time. If no setup is needed, tap Start production right away.
  2. Start production – the setup booking ends and production time runs.
  3. Pause – with a reason (e.g. break, material missing, maintenance). Resume continues.
  4. Stop – your booking ends, the operation stays open.

Setup and production time are booked separately per person. Several people can work on the same operation in parallel; each person has at most one running operation. The times appear in the order window and in the Working times report.

Reporting quantities

  1. Tap Report quantity.
  2. Enter Good and, if applicable, Scrap on the keypad. A reason is required for scrap.
  3. Report partial quantity or – once the operation is done – switch on Operation finished and tap Report and finish. Reporting it finished also ends the bookings of other people on this operation.

For the last operation of the order, the report posts the good quantity as a completion report into the warehouse (with the order's batch and best-before date) and issues the material by backflushing – depending on the order's withdrawal method (see Production order). Once the order quantity is reached, the order is done.

Material, documents and inspection steps

  • Material: the components with target, issued and open quantities. In a WMS warehouse you scan the bin, the item and, if needed, the batch; allverto suggests bins by FEFO (first expired, first out). Batches and best-before dates require the Batches add-on module. In a standard warehouse you issue each component by scanning the item – or let the material be backflushed when reporting.
  • Documents: drawings, work instructions and other documents (PDF or image) from the item documents of the product and its components. New document types in the item: Drawing and Work instruction; they are uploaded in the ERP on the item under Product safety.
  • Checks: in the routing of the bill of materials you create checks per operation – to tick off or as a measured value with unit and tolerance (from … to). In the app they are ticked off or entered; values outside the tolerance are marked red. The work queue shows open mandatory checks. Operation finished and the completion report that completes the order are only possible once all mandatory checks have been recorded and passed; depending on the setting, only an authorised person in the ERP can release a failed check.
  • Print label: label for the finished product (item label with batch and best-before date) via the terminal's print agent or the print dialog.

Reporting a malfunction

  1. Tap Report malfunction, choose a reason and optionally write a note.
  2. Your running booking is paused, and the work centre shows Malfunction in the shop floor overview.
  3. The shift supervisor gets an entry in the bell – you set the recipients in the settings, otherwise everyone with Maintain bills of materials, routings and work centres. With Team chat booked, a Team chat message is sent as well.
  4. Once the malfunction is fixed, someone taps Resolved.

Shop floor overview

The shop floor overview shows all work centres at a glance: status (Running, Setup, Paused, Malfunction, Idle), current operation with order, who is working on it, progress (good quantity against order quantity), delay against target time and due date, and the number of waiting operations. It refreshes itself – ideal for a large screen on the shop floor. With Plan production and report progress you can change an order's priority there.
