Connecting GLS

GuideLast checked on 15/10/2026

Connect GLS via the ShipIT Web API with your own GLS contract, print labels as PDF or ZPL, cancel them and do the end-of-day closing.

allverto creates GLS labels directly from the order. To do this, you connect your own GLS contract via the GLS ShipIT Web API. The settings are under Shipping → Settings → Carriers.

Before you start

You need the following from your GLS contact (sales or IT customer support):

  • a GLS business customer contract (shipping from your warehouse),
  • activation of the ShipIT Web API (REST) for allverto,
  • the Contact ID (Shipper ContactID, up to 20 characters, e.g. 276a1b2c3d),
  • Username and Password for the web API,
  • the web service address, if GLS gives you a specific one (otherwise the default address for Germany applies),
  • for Test mode: test credentials from GLS (there is no public test environment).

Step by step

  1. Open Shipping → Settings → Carriers and first fill in the Sender address.
  2. Click Connect carrier and choose GLS.
  3. Enter a name in allverto (e.g. “GLS Warehouse North”) and choose the Default product:
    • GLS BusinessParcel – standard parcel up to 31.5 kg, also to the EU,
    • GLS with FlexDeliveryService – the recipient gets an email and can change the date or destination (requires the customer's email address),
    • GLS Guaranteed24 – guaranteed delivery on the next working day,
    • GLS ExpressParcel – express by the end of the next working day.
  4. Enter Contact ID, Username and Password. Only fill in the web service address if GLS has given it to you.
  5. Choose the Label format: PDF, label 10 × 15 cm for label printers, PDF on A4 for office printers or ZPL (203 or 300 dpi) for Zebra thermal printers.
  6. For tests with GLS test credentials, switch on Test mode.
  7. Click Test login. allverto queries GLS for the products activated for your contact ID. If this works, click Connect.

You create labels as usual under Shipping (Orders → Ready to ship) or in the order – see Shipping and labels.

End-of-day closing

GLS expects an End-of-day closing at the end of the shipping day: it transmits all of the day's parcels to GLS and closes them. To do this, open the Manage menu on the connected GLS account and choose Close day now. allverto reports how many parcels were closed and opens the manifest (handover list) as a PDF.

Cancelling

You cancel a GLS label under Shipping → Shipments → Label created by right-clicking → Cancel shipment…. allverto cancels the parcel directly at GLS. If GLS has already scanned the parcel, the notice “GLS has already scanned the parcel” appears – in that case nothing was cancelled.

International and customs

You ship to the EU without customs data. For destinations outside the EU (e.g. Switzerland), allverto transmits the delivery terms code (duties unpaid, DAP). You add the commercial invoice to the parcel. For this, maintain the Customs tariff number and Country of origin in the item under Shipping & customs.

Frequently asked questions

“The contact ID does not belong to this GLS user”

User and contact ID don't match. Check the contact ID in the GLS contract or ask your GLS contact.

“The selected product or service is not activated in the GLS contract”

The service (e.g. Guaranteed24 or Express) is not part of your contract or not possible for this destination. Choose another product or have GLS activate the service.

Can I deliver to a GLS ParcelShop?

Delivery to a specific ParcelShop requires the customer's ParcelShop number. This will follow as soon as orders include a ParcelShop selection.
