Connecting FedEx
International shipments with your FedEx account number and a project in the FedEx Developer Portal – label, commercial invoice, cancellation and pickup from allverto.
allverto creates FedEx shipments via the official FedEx APIs (Ship, Rate and Pickup). Billing is via your FedEx account number.
Before you start
- a FedEx account with a 9-digit account number,
- a user in the FedEx Developer Portal (developer.fedex.com),
- a project in the Developer Portal with the Ship API, Rate API and Pickup API, linked to your account number. The project shows you the API Key and Secret Key – there are separate keys for the test environment and live operation.
- a Phone number in the sender address.
- Customs tariff number and Country of origin in the items (Shipping & customs), so that the goods description is complete.
Creating a project in the FedEx Developer Portal
- Sign in at developer.fedex.com and choose Create a project.
- Select the Ship API, Rate API and Pickup API.
- Link the project to your FedEx account number.
- Copy the API Key and Secret Key from the project details (first the test keys, after approval the production keys).
Step by step
- Open Shipping → Settings → Carriers and fill in the Sender address including phone.
- Click Connect carrier and choose FedEx.
- Choose the Default product: FedEx International Priority, International Economy, International Priority Express, Regional Economy or International Connect Plus (the last two only if they are in your contract).
- Enter the FedEx account number, API key and Secret Key and choose the Label format (PDF or ZPL).
- Click Test login – allverto requests a rate Berlin → Paris for this – and then Connect.
Labels and customs
FedEx needs a goods description for every international shipment: allverto transmits item, quantity, value, weight, customs tariff number and country of origin. Outside the EU, FedEx creates the commercial invoice; with a PDF label it is attached as an additional page.
Cancelling and pickup
- Cancel shipment… (right-click under Shipping → Shipments) also cancels the shipment at FedEx, as long as it hasn't been picked up yet.
- Manage → Request pickup books a driver to the sender address. The confirmation number appears on the card; the × cancels the pickup.
Test mode
With test keys, allverto uses the FedEx test environment (invalid labels). Without credentials, allverto simulates the service with sample labels.
